Why Should You Choose an MIM Safe Variocage for Pet Safety?

• The MIM Safe Variocage is the only dog cage available to the consumer today that has been rigorously tested for front, rear, and rollover collisions. In all instances of testing, the MIM Safe Variocage outperformed all other cages available and either met or exceeded safety standards. MIM Safe Variocage Versus Other Dog Cages

The MIM Safe Variocage is constructed out of ASTM A366 steel with telescopic tubes and two individual parts for the cage floor and roof, allowing you to adjust the cage length. The adjustable nature of this dog crate is not only used for convenience, but also benefits crash safety, as it works with the vehicles crumple zone in the event of a collision. In rear-end accidents, the floor, ceiling, and the telescopic tubes of the Variocage are pushed together. This has been proven through our testing to reduce risk of injury for the pet and the other occupants in the vehicle. This is not found in other dog cages.  

Crash testing a regular steel dog cage with an overall solid frame will often lead to extensive damage to the back seat. This can prove harmful for occupants in this area. The MIM Safe Variocage’s crumple zone is designed as a vehicle’s would be, it deforms in reaction to severe impact in order to prevent injury to the pet and other occupants.

MIM Safe Variocages are also engineered to minimalize lacerations or puncture wounds from cage material. Other dog cage brands have shown to break in dangerous ways upon impact in a collision, which can injure or prove fatal for your pet.

The overall structural integrity of the MIM Safe Variocage also prevents your pet from becoming a dangerous flying ragdoll during a collision. If sized and installed correctly, the MIM Safe Variocage prevents the crate from being thrown around during an accident or allowing the pet to escape. The escape hatch can be used to free the pet after the collision has occurred if the normal hatch cannot be accessed.

The MIM Safe Variocage Double features a movable center divider that is easily adjustable if one of the dogs needs more space. If you have a large dog or if you want to give a single dog more space, this center divider is easily removed.

Escape Hatch on the Variocage

If you are unable to access the Variocage front door after a collision, or you simply cannot locate the keys, the escape hatch can be used to free your pet.

Crumple Zone in the Variocage

In rear-end collisions, the most common collisions in the United States, the MIM Variocage will compress in a controlled manner, just like the crumple zones engineered into your vehicles. This prevents the rear seat from being penetrated or pushed forward by the dog cage, ultimately reducing the risk of injury to both pet and passengers.

MIM Construction items ship via FedEx Ground and ships within 1-2 business days.

Please note: Orders for MIM Construction items over $300 require an "Indirect Adult Signature" from FedEx. This requires that an adult at the household is able to sign for the package upon receipt. Exceptions cannot be made for this as it is required by the manufacturer. 

If you cannot have anyone present at the time of delivery, then you have two alternative options. You can call FedEx prior to delivery and sign in advanced, or you can wait for an attempted delivery by FedEx and then sign the tag they leave at your door to let them leave the package at your home on the next delivery attempt.

Measuring your dog and vehicle for an MIM Variocage Product is important, as returns for incorrect sizing cannot be made. If at any point you are not sure or have any questions, please feel free to email us at contact@petschoicesupply.com, or give us a call at (888) 557-7387.

Measuring Your Pet

It is important to start by measuring your pet first before measuring your vehicle. Proper fit for your dog’s comfort is vital to its safety.

Hold the measuring tape in one hand and place the free end at the front edge of your dog’s nose pulling it straight back to the base of his tail. This will give you the length measurement for your dog. You will need to add Three (3) inches to allow the dog room to turn around in the MIM Safe Variocage.

Place the tape at the top of the shoulder and measure down to the floor to get a proper height measurement. Add Three (3) inches to give the dog plenty of room if he wants to stand up.

Be sure to estimate your dog’s adult size if you order his crate while he is still growing. You can check his breed standard to get an estimate of what size he will reach at maturity to make sure your crate is large enough.

Proper measuring will assure that your pet can comfortably stand, sit, turn around, and lie down in his cage. You can always add a divider panel in the MIM Safe Variocage Double if necessary, and reserve the remaining space until your pet grows into it.

As a general rule, if you’re not sure which size to select, choose a larger size.

Measuring your Vehicle

The MIM Variocage models come in total of 14 different sizes to ensure there is a perfect fit for your vehicle. Each size is also adjustable in length to ensure there is a right fit for your vehicle. MIM Variocages are best suited for Station Wagons, Minivans, and SUVs.

1. Measure the narrowest usable area across the floor of the cargo area where you would position the crate (A)
   (Note: The narrowest usable area is often between the rear wheel wells or at the bottom of the cargo door entrance.)
2. Measure the usable length of the cargo floor from the back seat to the door sill (B)
   (Note: The front and back of the dog cage are angled. Total cage length is approximately 12″ narrower at the top.)
3. Measure the height from the cargo floor to the lowest point at the top of the cargo door entrance (C)
   (Note: Be sure to measure the shortest point which is often at the sides of the cargo entrance not in the middle.)

MIM Safe Variocage is adjustable in length. The slope of the front, back and side are angled so it can easily fit in a typical cargo area. If you have a door with a steep angle, it may not close properly with the crate fully extended. Consider the final adjusted length of the dog cage to be sure it will offer enough space for your dog.

The MIM Safe Variocage is also angled towards the top on both the front and the back of the dog cage and is adjustable in length so it can fit in a variety of vehicles. The slope of the front and back of the cage is approximately the same as the slope of the backseat.

The roof of the dog cage is shorter in length than the floor in consideration of the angle of the back seat, as well as the angle of the rear entryway door. Measuring length as indicated above will provide for a proper fit in almost all suitable vehicles.

The roof of the cage is narrower in width than the floor to allow for a proper fit in almost all suitable vehicles.

How to Adjust the Top of your MIM Variocage

1. Measure the distance between the top panel seam and top panel leading edge. (Measurement A on diagram below)
2. Measure the distance between the opposite top panel seam and top panel leading edge (Measurement B)
3. If Measurement (A) equals Measurement (B), no further adjustment is needed. If Measurement (B) does not equal Measurement (A), adjust Measurement (B) until it equals Measurement (A). To do so, loosen the black knobs on top of cage and adjust until Measurement (A) matches Measurement (B). Once Measurement (A) and Measurement (B) are equal, re-tighten black knobs.

Please Note: If your cage rattles, you will need to compress the top of the cage. To do so, loosen the black knobs on the top of the cage, compress the top of the cage 1/8” to 1/4”, and retighten knobs. Make sure you follow the three steps above after you make this adjustment to ensure Measurement (A) and Measurement (B) are equal.

How to Adjust the Bottom of your MIM Safe Variocage

1. Measure the distance between the floor panel seam and the outside leading edge on the left side of the cage
2. Measure the distance between the floor panel seam and the outside leading edge on the right side of the cage.
3. If this measurement on the left and right side of the cage are equal, no further adjustment is necessary. If this measurement is NOT the same on the left and right side of the cage, adjust until this measurement is equal on both sides. To do so, loosen the black knobs on both sides of the cage and adjust until both sides are equal. Once both sides are equal, re-tighten black knobs.

Warranty

MIM Safe Variocage Warranty

4×4 North America, Inc. warranties all of our products for Three (3) years from date of purchase. To be covered by the warranty, the defect must be an original manufacturing defect. The warranty does not cover any damage, mis-use or modifications by consumers nor does it cover damage from animals, drops, falls or impacts.

MIM Safe Products are made of steel they are powder coated and anti-rust treated. They hold up extremely well against rusting if not abused. However, MIM Safe and  4×4 North America, Inc. cannot not warranty the product against rust or corrosion nor are the products recommended for use outdoors or in harsh environments including salt water areas. However, we look at every situation on a case by case basis. Rest assured, we are customer friendly and quite reasonable. So, in some cases, we do make exceptions if warranted.

The manufacturer’s obligation under warranty shall be limited to replacement of defective parts or components. The warranty period starts from date of purchase. Warranty claims must be in writing and must include a copy of the original purchase receipt. For warranty service, MIM Safe Products must also include a picture of the production date code located on a plate attached to your MIM Safe Product if applicable.

Returns require RMA approval from 4×4 North America, Inc. Do not ship products back for warranty repair without proper authorization and a valid RMA Number.
